TSA-Approved Leatherman Multitool

As some of you know, backpacking is one of my hobbies. There is very little to me that beats strapping on a backpack and unplugging from the world for a week in the mountains somehwere. Well, I am in the market for a new single-blade knife and was doing some browsing around last night, when I saw this article on backpacker.com. In it, they discuss the Style PS multitool which is a 3-inch (closed) multitool that is apparently approved by the TSA for carry-on purposes.

This cool little piece of gear has some impressive specs and a great tool list for something that’s carry-on approved:

  • Spring-action Needlenose Pliers
  • Spring-action Regular Pliers
  • Spring-action Wire Cutters
  • Scissors
  • Flat/Phillips Screwdriver
  • Nail File
  • Tweezers
  • Carabiner/Bottle Opener

  • 100% Stainless Steel Body
  • Glass-filled Nylon Handle Scale
  • 25-Year Warranty

  • 2.9 in | 7.5 cm (Closed)
  • 1.58 oz | 44.7 g (Weight)

There are several reviewers that have successfully carried it on, but there are also a few that had to leave it behind (mostly when flying from a non-US airport). At less than $20 on Amazon it may well be worth the risk for the occasions that you may need it and don’t want to check a bag. It would be nice to have one to try out, or to hear from anyone with personal experiences.

i was challenged in Miami, but ultimately allowed to pass. I had it taken away in India. before that I took it through New York, Chicago, London, Caracas, and Mexico City with no questions.
